OUR CLERGY
We are excited to welcome Father Fred "Mac" Brown, the Reverend Deacon Cuyler O'Connor, and their families to our church and community!

The Reverend Fred M. Brown, or "Father Mac," became the Rector of St Bartholomew’s on November 12, 2024. He was ordained to the priesthood January 14, 2014 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Lookout Mtn, TN. Before being ordained, he served as a the Lay Chaplain and History and Religion Teacher of the Episcopal School of Knoxville, and was the Youth and Young Adult Minister at Grace Church Cathedral in Charleston, SC. Father Mac has served parishes in Tennessee, New York City, New Hampshire, and on multiple Diocesan Councils and Committees. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Mac was the rector of St. James Episcopal Church in Taos, NM.
Father Mac has particular passion for preaching, teaching, feeding ministries, racial reconciliation ministries, and inclusive ministries. He enjoys reading history and nonfiction and you will find him wandering Chatham County learning the stories of this parish. In his free time, he plays outside, hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping. Mac is also plays the string bass and guitar. Mac married the love of his life, Aloyse (aloe-ease) in 2012 in an Episcopal service in Vergenness, VT, presided over by the Rt. Rev. George D. Young III, retired Bishop of East TN. They have two elementary school aged sons and two dogs.
The Reverend Cuyler O’Connor was ordained as a vocational deacon in Holy Orders on January 27, 2024 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Raleigh, NC. Cuyler completed his first year assignment at El Buen Pastor, a Latino community in Durham, NC. He wanted to align
with this parish as he immersed himself as Bp. Jennifer’s Episcopal Farm Worker Ministry board representative, serving a five-county radius of farming communities.
Cuyler was raised Roman Catholic, but being introduced to the Episcopal Church by his best friend and wife Sarah, he was confirmed by Bp. Michael Curry in 2006. Cuyler completed his internship at St. Ambrose in Raleigh and his Clinical Pastoral Education at Duke Health.
He has spent the past 26 years in his secular life in some capacity of sales and contracting. He works with large health systems to achieve better patient outcomes.
Cuyler loves to be present with others and considers himself contemplative, admiring the writings of Thomas Merton, Richard Rohn, Thomas Keating, and Cynthia Bourgeault. He is passionate about the NC Diocese Latino Minstry, inclusive ministries, and pastoral care. He
loves to play the guitar and mandolin and listen to all things “music”. He has three daughters, and now that they can all drive he feels he can give up his status as the family Uber companion. His morning prayer practice consists of a healthy cup of coffee and sitting beside his beagle, Charlie.
